Xianfu Lu is a leader of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change secretariat’s support to the UNFCCC process on issues related to the Nairobi work programme on Impacts, Vulnerability and Adaptation to Climate Change, and the Warsaw International Mechanism for Loss and Damage associated with Climate Change Impacts. Prior to joining the UNFCCC secretariat, Dr Lu worked as a senior technical specialist with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) headquarters in New York where she supported over 140 developing countries to assess and plan for the management of climate risks within the framework of national communications to the UNFCCC. Dr Lu began her career as a scientist in the Climate Research Unit and the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research in the University of East Anglia. During her time with the UNFCCC secretariat, Dr Lu spent time with the Asian Development Bank where she helped the Bank develop a set of technical resources to systematically screen and plan for managing climate change induced risks for development investment in the Asia and Pacific region. Dr Lu also serves as an ex-officio member on the task group on data and scenarios of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). She was a coordinating lead author for the IPCC’s fourth assessment report.
